BINGOL, Turkey — The death toll from illegal pro-Kurdish protests and clashes kobani, kobane, protest between pro and anti-PKK fanatic Kurdish groups in Turkey has risen to 36.
At least 400 people have been killed during three weeks of fighting between Isis and Kurdish fighters in and around Kobani. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group in London said it had documented 412 deaths from kobani, kobane, protest sources on the ground, but the real figure was likely double that. Mona Mahmood (@monamood) has been speaking by phone to Sulien Tamou, student at the college of medicine in Aleppo. She fled Kobani with her family to Turkey.

I don't know where they were all coming from, but once they were killed, more Isis would come,” Mahmoud said through a translator as he walked from Kobani to a nearby town in south Turkey where his wife and five children were kobani, kobane, protest living as refugees. In August, the Obama administration said that the declared chemical weapons stockpile of Syrian President Bashar Assad had been eliminated. There has been talk since of Assad retaining secret stockpiles.
Turkish media said at least nine people were killed in demonstrations as furious Kurds, who make up one fifth of the country's population, demanded that their government do more to protect the Syrian Kurdish town. The Kurdish city of Kobane on the border of Syria and Turkey has been the scene of fierce fighting for weeks now between Kurdish resistance forces and the advancing ISIS jihadists.
The Sunni militants want to seize the dams to bolster their claim they are building an actual state; the dams are key to irrigating the country's vast wheat fields and providing Iraqis with electricity. More ominously, the Islamic State has used its control over water facilities - including as many as four dams along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers - to displace communities or deprive them of crucial water supplies.
This growing support for Isis has raised new concerns for the Pakistan-based leadership of al-Qaida, which worries that Isis is increasingly supplanting it among international jihadist groups. Last month, al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, speaking from his hideout in the tribal areas, announced the establishment of a new South Asian branch of al-Qaida, headed by Indian national Asim Umar, presumably, in part, as a counterweight to Isis.
Police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse protesters who burnt cars and tyres as they took to the streets mainly in Turkey's predominantly Kurdish eastern and southeastern provinces. Clashes also erupted in the biggest city Istanbul and in the capital Ankara. Five people were killed in Diyarbakir, the largest Kurdish city in the southeast, which saw clashes between protesters and police. The worst thing I saw was a man getting his head hacked off in front of me,” she said.
He said the eastern front was the scene of the fiercest fighting in the offensive launched by Isis last Tuesday on Kobani, also known as Ayn al-Arab. More than 100,000 Syrian Kurds have fled its advance, many crossing the border into Turkey. The Syrian kobani, kobane, protest Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence in the Syrian war, said Isis fighters had made no significant advance in the past 24 hours. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as by the U.S. and the European Union.
The US-led coalition airstrikes, which continued in the night and the morning, are helping but are not enough”, he added, calling for arms and ammunition to be supplied to the Kurdish fighters. Hours after two of the group's black flags were raised on the outskirts of the town on Monday, the militants punctured the Kurdish frontlines and advanced into the town itself, said the local coordination committee.
