TURKISH-SYRIAN BORDER (CNN) - Witnesses in the Syrian border town of Kobani say the situation is getting worse. It doesn't matter how brave you are if you don't have bullets to fire and the enemy does.

And Turkey is a strong ally in that respect, being a part of NATO kobani and all. Those on the left have always championed independent mindedness like FOREVER !! There's very seldom been the kind of homogenous lockstep among lefties as on the right, especially in these mindless teaparty times.
But that's not so simple. They would probably need to fly them out of Incirlik in Turkey and of course the Turks are 'conflicted'. Also they'd need to have robust search and rescue capability right across the border kobani,since the A-10s fly low and are vulnerable to antiaircraft fire. I'm sure the US military (and all the others) are very reluctant to get low enough for an IS manpad or heavy gun to knock down an aircraft.
The YPG also seems to have taken out lots of tanks, in addition to those being hit by the coalition air force. can wreak hell with ISIS' armor in an urban setting. I don't know the extent to which the Kurds have them, but it would be easy enough to deliver. quantities that we don't have to worry much about them being turned on Turks or whoever. Supply one and one half for each ISIS tank.

The U.S. isn't sure why IS is fighting so hard for control of Kobani, a city with few resources and far removed from any capital. This just really reminds me how ticked I am at Turkey for sitting on the sidelines either hoping for, or not caring about a slaughter in Kobane. Obama needs to tell the Turks to get the out of NATO and to forget about EU Membership if they are not willing to help. We need to press the Obama admin & our Congresspeople to give no-strings attached material support to these progressive brethren in Rojava.
But the difference here is the push by women for equality within the context of a socio-economic and political model that emphasizes horizontal human relations. This is a wonderful development, and it will take time

For the last 2 days the gangs have concentrated their attacks on the Mistenur hill to the south east of Kobanê town. The YPG said hand-to-hand fighting was continuing between YPG forces and ISIS gangs, adding that the gangs were placing heavy weapons closed to the town and shelling it. Matson is an Army vet who served for about 18 months, from May 2006 to November 2007, the story on WISN reads.
Kobanê recalled that the gangs had attempted several suicide attacks in recent days, saying these attempts were related to the setbacks they had suffered. Kobanê said it would not be possible for the gangs to succeed with these attacks, as the YPG fighters had taken precautions and prevented these attacks with bomb-laden vehicles. It is true that YPG forces are making progress in recent days. YPG fighters have retaken 5 neighborhoods in east Kobane under control. YPG forces are in the same way advancing in south Kobane. The danger before civilians and the town however remains. The ISIS which has suffered a heavy defeat wants to devastate this city of resistance and to murder civilians vengefully. They are being responded by the YPG, peshmerga forces, Free Syrian Army (FSA) attacks on the ground and effective aerial attacks of the coalition.

The fight against Isis does not seem to be going too well in Iraq either. AP has this report on growing pubic disgruntlement at the Iraqi government's military campaign against Isis. The west is pinning much on the new prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, to wage a more effective campaign against the jihadists. Erdogan said more than 200,000 people have fled the fighting in and around Kobani in recent weeks. Their flight is among the largest single exoduses of the three-year Syrian conflict.
Isis has shown much aptitude in the use of social media to spread its message. It has now issued 11 rules for journalists covering the group. The first injunction is to swear allegiance to the caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Here is the list in full. France said everything needed to be done to stop Isis' advance on Kobani and that it was discussing with Turkey what action was necessary.
