Yes, well, as Clausewitz said, war is "War is a mere continuation of politics by other means," i.e. War is merely politics conducted through the use of force. So yes, all the problems with war are political problems. Right now, Turkey is the political problem as well as ISIS. But that's not so simple. They would probably need to fly them out of Incirlik in Turkey and of course the Turks are 'conflicted'. Also they'd need to have robust search and rescue capability right across the border 
But apparently the Kurdish women are aware that under the rule of groups like ISIS (and the less extremist but still very very extreme groups like the Taliban and Al Qaeda) they will have no choices about their own lives. She probably made a calculated decision to save those whom she commanded, friends whom she loved and cherished, by sacrificing her life to take out a dangerous ISIS unit that had been killing many.
Further complicating the issue, the U.S. said it has begun talking directly to the Kurdish fighters' political wing in Kobani — a diplomatic move that is likely to anger Turkey. The U.S. isn't sure why IS is fighting so hard for control of Kobani, a city with few resources and far removed from any capital. But like the U.S. with Kobani, a loss to a ragtag group of Kurdish fighters would be a propaganda loss for IS.

They are being opposed by just 2,000 Kurdish fighters with the YPG, the armed wing of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), without access to any heavy weaponry and short on ammunition. To put this into perspective, 
For the last 2 days the gangs have concentrated their attacks on the Mistenur hill to the south east of Kobanê town. The YPG said hand-to-hand fighting was continuing between YPG forces and ISIS gangs, adding that the gangs were placing heavy weapons closed to the town and shelling it. Matson is an Army vet who served for about 18 months, from May 2006 to November 2007, the story on WISN reads.
Kobanê recalled that the gangs had attempted several suicide attacks in recent days, saying these attempts were related to the setbacks they had suffered. At the southwestern front, YPG forces also carried out a counter-attack, cleansing two separate areas of gangs and killing 7 members of theirs.
It is true that YPG forces are making progress in recent days. YPG fighters have retaken 5 neighborhoods in east Kobane under control. YPG forces are in the same way advancing in south Kobane. The danger before civilians and the town however remains. The ISIS which has suffered a heavy defeat wants to devastate this city of resistance and to murder civilians vengefully. They are being responded by the YPG, peshmerga forces, Free Syrian Army (FSA) attacks on the ground and effective aerial attacks of the coalition.
The nature of the fighting in and around Kobani has meant that it is not possible to get a very clear picture of the state of the battle for the town. Kurdish militias tend to report dramatic gains, while IS militants are either silent or also report dramatic gains. However, there have been indications that Kurdish militias have been making some advances in the battle for Kobani. The statement said U.S. forces have conducted more than 135 air strikes against IS forces in Kobani.

The fight against Isis does not seem to be going too well in Iraq either. AP has this report on growing pubic disgruntlement at the Iraqi government's military campaign against Isis. The west is pinning much on the new prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, to wage a more effective campaign against the jihadists. Erdogan said more than 200,000 people have fled the fighting in and around Kobani in recent weeks. Their flight is among the largest single exoduses of the three-year Syrian conflict.
The latest air strikes came as heavily armed peshmerga forces were poised to cross the Turkish border into Kobane to help the local Kurdish militia that has held out against a relentless assault by ISIL militants for weeks. Under heavy pressure from the United States, Turkey announced last week it would allow fighters from Iraq's autonomous Kurdish province to cross its territory to join the fight for Kobane.
